 TSC-1

The TSC-1 is Trimble's own datalogger included with the ProXR or ProXRS.  It has a large, easy to read keyboard and display screen with a superior lithium ion battery.  Here are some questions and answers.

Q. I notice there are two keys on this new keyboard, Menu and Next.  How can I use them?

A. The TSC-1 allows you to have several screens or menu selections "open" at the same time.  Here's an example: let's say you want to be able to easily monitor satellites while collecting field data.   Assuming you have already created a rover file, selected a data dictionary and are ready to collect data, press the Menu key.  This takes you to the Main Menu.   Now select Satellite Information.  Press Enter.  Select the mode you want to display (F1).  Now press the Next key.  It will toggle between Data Collection and Satellite Information with the press of a button.

You can open as many screens as you wish.  Simply repeat by pressing the Menu key, select another item and use the Next key to toggle between all open screens.

Q.  I've just collected a point feature in error.  I would like to delete it, but don't know how.  Can I delete features in the field?  Also, can I edit features in the field already collected?

A.  Yes, you can.  Simply press the Menu key, then select File Manager and press Enter.  You can select Review File and select the file you wish to review.   The screen will display all of the features you've collected in this file so far, highlighting the most recent one collected.  If that is the one you wish to delete, simply press the Delete soft key (F4).  You will be asked to confirm this deletion.  Say Yes by pressing F1.

You can also use this menu to edit the feature.  If you realize that you've made an incorrect choice of an attribute value, you can correct the error by following the same procedure above.  Instead of Deleting the feature, you can Edit the feature.   You can change any attribute value.  Press Enter to save the new choice.

Q. I'm more familiar with the older, TDC-1 datalogger.  I used to press the Enter key to begin a feature and the OK key to end it.  Now that I'm using the TSC-1, I have a problem with ending the feature prematurely, since the Enter key both begins and ends the feature.  Is there a way to help me prevent this?

A. Yes.  With Asset Surveyor 4.03 (current version) you can give yourself a reminder to let you know you are about to close the current feature.  You can answer that query, yes or no.  To set this reminder, go to the Configuration menu, then to Rover Options, then to Logging Options.  There you will find a line that says, "confirm end feature."  If this is set to "no," you can accidentally end the feature.  If you set this to "yes," you will receive the reminder asking you if you want to end the feature.  You can answer yes or no.
